Take in the panoramic views of Guwahati city and the Brahmaputra from the temple complex.After the temple visit, embark on a picturesque drive to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya and fondly known as the “Scotland of the East.” The journey is filled with lush hills, misty views, and winding roads. En route, stop at:

Umiam Lake (Barapani):A scenic and expansive reservoir surrounded by pine-covered hills, Umiam Lake is a must-visit on the way to Shillong. You’ll get time here for photography, a short walk, or simply to soak in the calm ambiance. The lake also offers optional activities like boating and kayaking (own expense).Continue your drive into the rolling hills until you arrive in Shillong by afternoon or early evening. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and relax. Depending on the time, you can take a stroll to the local market area (Police Bazaar) or simply unwind at the hotel.

After an early breakfast, get ready for a full-day excursion to Cherrapunjee (locally known as Sohra)—famous for its lush green valleys, roaring waterfalls, and title as one of the wettest places on Earth.The drive itself is a treat, winding through pine forests, deep valleys, and mist-covered cliffs. En route, admire the scenic beauty of the Khasi Hills and roadside villages.Seven Sisters Falls:Also known as Nohsngithiang Falls, this majestic seven-segmented waterfall cascades down a limestone cliff, especially stunning during the monsoon season.Nohkalikai Falls:Marvel at India’s tallest plunge waterfall (about 340 meters). The story behind its name—of a woman named Likai—is both tragic and fascinating. The emerald plunge pool beneath the falls is mesmerizing.Garden of Caves:A peaceful and less-crowded attraction where you’ll find waterfalls, caves, and forest trails all in one place. It’s a photographer’s delight and a nature lover’s escape.Mawsmai Caves:Well-lit and partially walkable, these limestone caves offer a thrilling experience as you explore narrow passages, natural formations, and echoing chambers.Arwah Caves:Less commercial and tucked into the forest, these caves are larger, quieter, and rich with limestone formations and fossil impressions. A short forest trail leads to the entrance, adding to the adventure.

On Return Journey:Stop at Shillong Peak, the highest point in Shillong offering panoramic views of the city, the hills, and, on a clear day, the plains of Bangladesh.Return to Shillong by evening. Relax at your hotel after a day filled with natural wonders.

Day 4

After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive through the lush green hills of Meghalaya to explore two of the region’s most iconic destinations—Mawlynnong, Asia’s Cleanest Village, and Dawki, home to the crystal-clear Umngot River.Your first stop is Mawlynnong, a picture-perfect village where nature and community pride go hand in hand. Walk through its tidy lanes lined with colorful flowers, bamboo dustbins, and traditional Khasi homes built on stilts. Experience the serenity of this model village, where the locals maintain cleanliness as a way of life. A short forest trail leads you to the incredible Living Root Bridge, a natural marvel formed by guiding the roots of rubber trees across streams—an awe-inspiring example of bioengineering by indigenous communities.

After soaking in the charm of Mawlynnong, continue your journey to Dawki, located near the India–Bangladesh border. The highlight here is a boating experience on the Umngot River, famous for its unbelievably transparent waters. As you glide across the river, you’ll be amazed at how the boat appears to float in mid-air, revealing the smooth pebbles below. Surrounded by forested cliffs and echoing tranquility, this is a moment of pure natural magic.Before heading back, make a quick visit to the Indo–Bangladesh border checkpoint, where you can catch a glimpse of life on the other side of the fence and see the peaceful coexistence at this international frontier.Return to Shillong by evening with unforgettable memories of nature’s brilliance and cultural beauty.

Wake up to your final morning in the serene hills of Meghalaya and enjoy an early breakfast at the hotel. After check-out, begin your return journey to Guwahati, descending through the misty hills and pine-scented air one last time.As you drive back, reflect on the days spent amid waterfalls, caves, root bridges, and pristine rivers—each memory etched with nature’s purity and cultural warmth. Depending on your flight schedule, you may get the opportunity for a quick stop at a local market or a final view of the Brahmaputra River.Arrive at Guwahati Airport in time for your return flight to Kerala.
